About Us
Forty Years on the High Street
Since 1985, Hartley & Son has stood on the same stretch of pavement, watching the high street change around us. We've seen other shops come and go, but we're still here—still independent, still family-run, still the place locals know they can trust for the right part, explained properly.
Four decades of doing one thing well: helping homeowners, gardeners and tradespeople find exactly what they need, and knowing our stock well enough to suggest what they didn't know they needed.
Open Six Days a Week
You'll find us open six days a week—a reliable, dependable local fixture you can count on. Closed Sundays, so our team can rest and the high street can breathe.
That consistency matters. It means you know where to find us, and we know you're coming.
Why Independent Matters
A hardware shop isn't just a place to grab things off a shelf. It's the difference between a quick answer and a long search.

Part of the High Street Community
Hartley & Son isn't just a shop. It's a fixture—the place where a homeowner finds advice, where a gardener picks up supplies for the season, where a local tradesperson knows they'll find what they need or someone who can help them find it.
Serving Our Community
We serve the people on our street—homeowners tackling their first DIY project, gardeners planning the growing season, small trades who know good advice saves time and money. We're here for them, and we always will be.
Built to Last
We've stayed open this long because we do the job right. That same commitment—to do things properly, to stay independent, to know what we're talking about—is what will keep us here for the next forty years.
